Unmittelbar neben dem Bochumer Schauspielhaus entstand 1954–1957 das Verwaltungsgebäude der Ruhrstickstoff AG, das 1984 vom Land Nordrhein-Westfalen gekauft wurde und seitdem als Finanzamt dient.
Entworfen wurde es, wie das Schauspielhaus, von dem Hannoveraner Architekten Gerhard Graubner, der auch die Stadthalle in Mülheim, das Theater in Lünen und die Mercatorhalle in Duisburg plante.
