Um Interessierten die Big Beautiful Buildings auf ganz persönliche Weise näher zu bringen, bot StadtBauKultur NRW an allen Wochenenden im September und Oktober kostenfreie, geführte Bustouren zu den schönsten, größten, aber auch den unbekanntesten und vielleicht den schrägsten Gebäuden der 1950er bis 1970er Jahre im Ruhrgebiet und darüber hinaus an.
Im Rahmen der internationalen Konferenz am 30. und 31. Oktober 2018 gaben Experten eine Einführung in die Thematik der Nachkriegsarchitektur und setzten sich mit Ihrer Rezeption, Vermittlung und Denkmalwürdigkeit auseinander.

In the Ruhr area there are many outstanding buildings from the post-war period. But most people don't even notice them. In order for this to change, we distinguish these buildings: Usually in a festive setting and in the presence of users, enthusiasts and representatives of the press, we attach the widely visible label "Exemplary buildings from the 1950s to the 1970s" to these buildings.
Churches, castles and half-timbered houses are today undisputedly regarded as architectural monuments. But how is the value of large housing estates, shopping centres or campus universities assessed? The exhibition "BIG HERITAGE. Using selected German and international examples, "Which monuments of which modernity" provides an insight into the debates on monuments and the conservation of post-war modernist buildings.
Back to the city of the future. The 1950s to 1970s were a time of upswing in the Ruhr, but also in many other cities and regions of Europe, characterized by a spirit of innovation and a willingness to experiment. As part of the project "Goodbye Utopia" students of the TU Berlin design and realize a built communication platform within sight of Finnstadt and Habiflex.

Mit einem mobilen Tonstudio, der Story Box, tourte das Team von „mythen der moderne“ im Sommer 2018 für das Kunstprojekt DIE STIMME DER STADT durch die Stadtteile und sammelte persönliche Erzählungen und Anekdoten ein. Über 100 Bürger gaben ihre Stimme ab. Im September 2018 implantierte DIE STIMME DER STADT die Erzählungen der Bürger in das Herz der Stadt, in den Ratssaal am Europaplatz.
